Hi, my name is Cesar.
Some Fun Facts about me:
If I'm not skiing or playing tennis, I might be jamming on my guitar or wine tasting.
I'm a multicultural person of American, Asian, and Latino roots. I was born in the Philippines and grew up going to American and British schools. My life was heavily influenced first by the Asian norms and later on by the European and American norms. I started working at 18 years old in the retail business while going to school in London. In the retail business, I had the opportunity to interact with people all around the world.
With this job, I was able to pay for my school and to travel around Europe as a student. I was always interested in business, therefore my degree was in business and marketing plus courses in Spanish, French, and German. After that, I moved to the USA to complete my degree at the University of San Francisco and then my MBA degree at Golden Gate University. While working as a national sales and marketing manager for a manufacturing company, which was owned by two French brothers, I learned how to work with clients ranging from Disney to Lennox and architectural design firms. Having worked in sales and marketing all my career, I started as an individual contributor then became a manager during which time I trained and coached people on products and services, while motivating them to achieve results.
I made mistakes as a manager along the way and I learned from them enough to help others not make the same mistakes in terms of people management. And so my work has evolved into more training and coaching managers, directors and VP's, usually those who are inheriting a new team or are building and trying to scale a team effectively. In my 30 years of experience, I had the opportunity to encounter challenging people and situations while working with multi-cultural teams. And I learned from this during my travels around Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the USA. So I understand the perspective and mindset to do this type of work well.
I’ve also been doing some interesting Ph.D. research over the past 6 years... on something called Leadership DNA. And that's what we are talking about... If you want to build a high-performing team that is able to achieve its objectives, then let's change the situation you're in right now!

Become more self-aware
It all starts with the foundation - It's critical that you're aware of your strengths and weaknesses in order to adapt them accordingly to the situation. Sometimes, the strengths that you see in yourself are not perceived as strengths by your team members. This can lead to a lack of trust in your team.
Understand your team's cultural differences
Have you ever asked yourself: How does my cross-cultural team communicate? How do they view authority? How do they prefer to work and how do they view risk and make decisions? You have to have an answer to all these questions in order to lead your cross-cultural team properly.
Create and follow clear team norms
It is important you work with your team to establish clear ground rules. These rules must be respected no matter your background or personlity. This way everyone's on the same page and conflicts can be resolved much easier.
Foster personal connections
This is the number one way to reduce conflict. But you need a deep understanding of all of your team members. You need to not only know how they communicate, work, view authority, etc… but also what their interests and hobbies are. Once you know these types of things — you can start strategically pairing people together as well as starting conversations between people with similar interests.
Become a more transparent leader
You need to keep all of your team members in the loop. That means sharing both the good — and the bad. As well as encouraging open and honest feedback. You're doing this by showing genuine interest, involving team members in decision-making and encouraging them to give open and honest feedback.
